first friday of summer!

We made it! Memorial Day has been celebrated, white shorts have been dug out of storage, and strawberry wine has been purchased and stored in the fridge. Summertime is finally upon us! Today I’m signing my lease and picking up the keys to my new digs. Even though this isn’t my first “big girl” apartment, it is the first place I’ve found completely on my own. I couldn’t be more excited!

Now let’s get to the good stuff. The things that have made my week this week:

1. This song by AWOLNATION – I heard the first lines of it as I was getting out of my car Wednesday morning. It must have been a fate thing because I never listen to the radio, but that moment I had unplugged my phone and hit a preset button because the static was bothering me.

2. The 25 most iconic hand dances from the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way”. I must admit – I was an N’SYNC fan all the way, but this made me laugh.

3. My latest bloom:

4. My new favorite way to eat an egg – hard-boiled but over easy. Lord knows I love me some fried eggs over easy, but hard boiling them prevents any unappetizing under cooked egg whites!

Happy, happy weekend friends! If you need something to do, I’m sure my movers wouldn’t mind a helping hand tomorrow.

tuesdays on twitter

I may or may not have spent the past twenty minutes scouring my Twitter feed for a good quote and laughing at how funny I am. Seriously, I might be the only person who thinks I’m funny but those hashtags I come up with — they’re good stuff. (Insert awkward penguin meme here).

Why am I looking for a quote? I’m glad you asked. As you may know, I’m moving Saturday and with a brunette-in-pearls move comes an overwhelming urge to re-do everything in my apartment. I’m trying not to go overboard. I mean I said no to a new comforter, that’s progress right?! Anyway, I had this great idea that includes a frame, glitter paper, and an Xacto knife. All of which I already have! Now I just need a quote. Yeah…this might take a while. Cheers!

Memorial Day.

Happy Memorial Day! I hope you are all enjoying a nice, relaxing day…or if you’re anything like me, you’re rockin’ your white shorts for the first time this season! Unfortunately, I am at work while everyone else is off playing and enjoying the sunshine. Don’t feel sorry for me though! Since I have class tonight and I decided to work today and take my holiday on Friday to better prepare for my move on Saturday.

Speaking of the move, things are almost ready to depart Wisdom Drive and begin a new adventure. I jokingly told my mom that I needed to say farewell to my neighbor who I don’t really know but we exchange hello’s every time we see each other. He’s going to walk his adorable little puppy next week and wonder where the heck I ran off to.

Well I’m off to go for a brief walk outside. Oddly enough, my building is colder today than it usually is. I was totally prepared for the opposite! Happy Monday!

Camels, copper, and chipotle

First off, I would like to commend myself for remembering to do this. Look at me forming a new habit! Now that I’ve said that, I’ll ultimately forget to do it next week but I can blame it on being too busy with moving then. Things that I had me excited this week:

1. This lovely copper bracelet made by Tristan Prettyman, the singer/songwriter. It says “Maybe the best hasn’t happened yet”, which is a lyric from one of her most recent songs, “Never Say Never”.

2. Surprise visits at work from Sarah! She stopped by yesterday after taking her MCAT and we caught up for two hours over Chipotle. Best night ever.

3. This NY Times article about Julia Child hating cilantro and arugula. I absolutely despise cilantro. I think it’s gross. However during my first Chipotle experience last night, Sarah informed me that hating cilantro is in my genes. Apparently there’s a small percentage of people in the world who think it tastes like soap and I’m one of them!

4.  I got creative this week and tested out my skills in photoshop. Hello new Facebook banner!Facebook Banner

5. This sparkly kitchen is to die for! I want it. Whether it’s in my future bakery or my future house, it’s happening one way or the other.

6. ohmygosh! This amazing new Geico commercial.
You know I’m happy when there’s a camel involved:

Happy Friday, y’all!

eos – I’m in love.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time or if you know me in real life, you know that I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to things I like. Hello, 11 pairs of TOMS. And did you see how many bottles of nail polish I own?! It’s a bit of a problem. Well please allow me to introduce you to my latest obsession: eos strawberry sorbet lip balm.

I’ve been a devoted cherry Chapstick user for as long as I can remember. Occasionally, I’ll step out of my comfort zone and try something new, like Burt’s Bees or Maybelline’s Baby Lips, but I always go back to my cherry Chapstick. As of this moment, I have a tube in my desk drawer, two tubes in my purse, a tube in the medicine cabinet, a tube in my key bowl by the door, and a tube on my nightstand. If you’re starting to worry about my sanity, my sister and my dad are just as bad. It runs in the family.

Anyway, I’ve been eyeing the eos brand for a while now. It’s cute packaging and unique flavors piqued my interest, so I bought one of its cute little lip balm spheres this weekend. Now, this is the part where I have to admit I’m all-out cheating on my chapstick. This little pink ball of delight has been by my side since Sunday. I’m in love. It’s the perfect amount of flavor and moisture. It’s not overbearing or too slippery. Plus, it gave me an excuse to use that “Galatic” filter I’ve been dying to use.

Now that you’ve wasted five minutes of your day reading about my lip balm obsession, please note that I was not paid to write this post to advertise to you. I merely am obsessive and I feel the urge to share my joy with everyone I know…including those of you on the internet. Now I’m off to see what other goodies they sell.

Internet Cats & Sunday Naps

My love for internet cats is increasing at an alarming rate. Last week, my sister sent me a video entitled “Kitten vs. Lizards” and then the next day her fiance informed me of the latest and greatest internet cat sensation, Princess Monster Truck. Seriously, how can you resist her cute self?!

However, nothing compares to this one:

I don’t know who she is but she is my spirit animal. I mean just look at that tiara!

Now that you know that I’m borderline cat-obsessed, I can tell you all about my weekend. My mom and I packed up my apartment (moving date is less than two weeks away – I cannot wait!) on Saturday. Oh my goodness, I need to stop buying things covered in glitter. I also need to stop buying shoes. Oh well, that’s why I’m paying movers so I don’t have to hear my dad fuss about how much stuff I have. You only live once, right?

Then Sunday was spent recovering. I was supposed to work an alumni event we were sponsoring, but (thankfully) it was rained out. I got to enjoy a nice little nap and an hour in the gym (by myself!) instead. It was glorious. Last night, I studied for a bit since my Economics midterm is tonight and then I made a “sleep inducer” smoothie that I, sadly, didn’t take a picture of. It was a mix of bananas, fresh cherries, sesame seeds, peanut butter and skim milk. Apparently, cherries are full of melatonin which helps you sleep. Overall, it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t my favorite, but it needs a few tweaks here and there.

Then I settled in for Mad Men. I only know of two other people who watch Mad Men so I’ll spare you my thoughts. I will leave you with this gem:

Friday Faves

I know, I know. I missed last week. That was poor planning on my part. Of course I would choose to start a new series the Friday before graduation (the busiest day of the academic year). Please accept my sincerest apologies.

This weeks favorites and finds!

1. My favorite pair of Toms! I found them while packing up some things last week.
I honestly thought they had somehow gotten thrown away.

2. A new spin on the piece of artwork I want to create like Mia & her mom did in The Princess Diaries.
Paint filled eggs seem so much more fun than filling up balloons with paint!

3. Quote: “She refused to be bored, chiefly because she wasn’t boring.” -Zelda Fitzgerald

4. THIS incredible list of 100 tips. You might have to zoom in to read them. Numbers 46, 76, 84, and 93 are the best.

5. My delicious dinner with Abbydean on Wednesday:

6. This isn’t a favorite of this week but can you tell I like nail polish?
Thankfully, I weeded out about half of it and I have put myself on a polish freeze for a few months.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! My mom is coming to visit to help me pack up the majority of my apartment.
Only two weeks til I move. I’m so excited!

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

If you like peanut butter or bananas or smoothies, then this post is for you! I got in from the gym last night and I wanted something sweet and satisfying but wouldn’t be detrimental to my diet. Enter the amazing peanut butter banana smoothie! It was so great that I made another one for breakfast this morning (though I should have added some quick oats to it). Here’s the recipe:

1 tablespoon natural peanut butter (I use JIF)
1 medium banana
.5 cup vanilla almond milk
a dash of cinnamon
1.5 cups of ice

Throw all of this into your blender and hit the smoothie button. OR if you’re like me and prefer a milkshake consistency versus the icy/grainy texture of a smoothie, just blend it a little longer. Lucky for me, my blender has a milkshake button. 🙂

I apologize for the poor quality, iPhone picture (and the vintage Roo Cup from 2011). It was all I had time for – I was hungry! A whole smoothie equals out to be about 198 calories with 9 grams of fat (good ol’ peanut butter does that to you). Happy blending!

The “Meh, It was Alright” Gatsby.

Have you ever been so excited for something only to be letdown? That’s my experience with Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. I was so excited to see it the moment I saw rumors that a Gatsby film was being made a couple of years ago. I began searching for little bits and pieces of information about it – Leo was playing Gatsby. Great! There’s no one else better suited for that role. It was being released Christmas 2012 – awesome! It’s getting pushed back to Summer 2013 – finnneeee. I even purchased a fresh copy of the book to carry around with me/display on my coffee table. But all of that was in vain – The Great Gatsby left me feeling like something was missing. Don’t get me wrong – it was a good movie – but something just felt off  about it. Maybe it was the crazy party scenes that felt too modern for the time period. Maybe it was that I had put too much stock into a movie version of this classic.  Or maybe I just didn’t need to see the despicable Daisy Buchanan brought to life. Either way, I give it 3 out of 5 stars. It didn’t live up to my expectations, but it didn’t sway me from wanting this sweatshirt from ModCloth either. gatsby
